Netlist announced that Micron agreed to pay $600 million to settle the patent dispute, structured as $30 million per quarter under a five-year license. The settlement follows a $445 million patent-infringement verdict Netlist won against Micron in Marshall, Texas, in 2024. Netlist CEO Charles Hong said the deal further validates the value of the company’s AI memory technologies.
The settlement is one front in a broader campaign. In September, Netlist filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission seeking to block imports of products from Alphabet, Nvidia and Broadcom used in AI computing. In August, Netlist settled a separate dispute with Samsung after winning $421 million in patent verdicts. The ITC case is the one with supply-chain implications, since an exclusion order could disrupt AI hardware imports.
Micron shares were little changed, up 0.13 percent to $1,065.29 with a $1.20 trillion market capitalization. The $600 million is small relative to Micron’s scale, and the market treated the announcement as overhang removal. The risk to watch is the ITC complaint, which targets the highest-value AI customers rather than Micron itself.
