OpenAI announced a GPT-6 model for its more than 1.2 billion weekly ChatGPT users, with paid tiers getting GPT-6 Sol on Wednesday and free and lower-cost Go users receiving GPT-6 Luna on Thursday. The centerpiece is Intelligent UI: instead of text, ChatGPT will answer with interactive elements such as charts, tappable buttons, a savings calculator or diagrams, which users can dial back if they prefer. OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant starts answering web-search questions 44 percent faster than the prior model, a company claim.
The same day, Anthropic launched Claude Haiku 5.5, a small model for high-volume repetitive work priced at 10 cents per million input tokens, one tenth of Haiku 4.5. Anthropic claims Haiku 5.5 beats GPT-6 Luna on computer-use and agentic-coding benchmarks, halved cache-read pricing on Sonnet 5.5, and will give Max and Team subscribers up to $500 a month in API credits. The same-day launches set up a direct contest between OpenAI’s consumer distribution and Anthropic’s push to own cheap agentic workloads.
