UNIFIL says small arms fire hit Lebanon border post, no injuries

The UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon says small arms fire targeted a UNIFIL position near Kfar Shouba along the Blue Line on Wednesday morning, with no casualties reported.

Why it matters: The attack, which UNIFIL called deliberate, comes as the mission winds down under a Security Council decision to end its mandate on December 31 after pressure from the US and Israel.

Data as of Al Jazeera reporting on UNIFIL's statement, October 7, 2026. Single-sourced; the shooter has not been identified and the incident is under investigation.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon said Wednesday that several rounds of small arms fire targeted one of its posts near Kfar Shouba along the UN-drawn border with Israel, known as the Blue Line, in the morning. No casualties were reported. “Such deliberate attacks gravely endanger the lives of peacekeepers,” UNIFIL said, adding that it was investigating the incident. The force currently fields about 7,500 peacekeepers from roughly 50 countries in southern Lebanon. Under US and Israeli pressure, the UN Security Council decided earlier this year to end UNIFIL’s mandate on December 31; Lebanon and Israel concluded a US-sponsored framework agreement in June covering Hezbollah’s disarmament, a gradual Israeli withdrawal from the south and Lebanese army deployment starting in designated pilot zones.
