Nokia has informed staff it plans to cut 253 jobs in Finland, Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat reported, hitting its Espoo headquarters as well as Tampere and Oulu, with formal negotiations set to begin October 12. The cuts extend the cost-savings program Nokia announced in 2023, which targeted 14,000 job reductions by 2026 to save 800 million to 1.2 billion euros, and follow a separate round of 121 Finnish job cuts earlier this year. Country manager Mikko Hautala told staff the company will keep investing in strategically important areas including defense, AI and data centers.
Nokia to cut 253 jobs in Finland, reports say
Nokia plans to cut 253 jobs in Finland, its home market, as the network vendor extends a cost-cutting program that has already shrunk its global workforce.
Why it matters: The cuts show European telecom equipment makers still squeezing costs even as they reposition around defense, AI and data-center demand.
