French AI infrastructure company Sesterce announced a $10 billion, 600-megawatt data center campus in Jämsä, Finland, on the site of the former UPM Kaipola paper mill.
Why it matters: It deepens Finland's run as Europe's AI-compute anchor and shows power availability, not labor or land, dictating where the big campuses go.
Data as of Announced Oct 8, 2026. Figure reported as 'more than EUR 10 billion' by Telecompaper (about $10 billion per DCD's headline); investment figure is a company plan, not committed capex. DCD page bot-blocked to this writer, so details beyond Telecompaper's verified figures (phases, cooling, fund, quotes) are omitted.
French artificial intelligence company Sesterce has announced plans to invest more than EUR 10 billion, about $10 billion, to create a European AI campus powered by renewable energy on the former UPM Kaipola paper mill site in Jämsä, Finland. The company said it has already secured an anchor customer for the site, which it did not name.
First-phase capacity will be 200 megawatts, expandable to 600 megawatts, and the company aims to build more than 1 gigawatt of AI capacity in Finland over the long term, reusing existing industrial sites for their grid, water, buildings and logistics connections.
