Anthropic-linked $366 million data center pushes ahead in Cedar Creek

A $366 million data center campus in Cedar Creek, Texas, reportedly in talks with Anthropic, is moving forward after September's state permit pause, with construction slated to start in late November.

Why it matters: The project adds another AI data center to the Austin metro just as Texas tightens oversight of data center permits, and EdgeConneX is separately planning about $7 billion more in Cedar Creek-area campuses.

Data as of Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filings, October 2026. Single-sourced on the Anthropic link; the tenant talks are reported, not confirmed by the company.

Project Longhorn, a $366 million data center campus in Cedar Creek, southeast of Austin, is moving ahead with construction expected to begin in late November and completion targeted for January 2028. State filings describe a roughly 498,000-square-foot data center building and related site work near Earl Callahan Road and Walter Hoffman Road.

The project is reportedly in talks with Anthropic as the potential tenant, though the company has not confirmed the arrangement. Progress had been interrupted by Governor Greg Abbott’s September order pausing new state permits for data center projects; the filing now moving forward suggests the development has cleared that review. Separately, EdgeConneX is developing three Cedar Creek-area campuses with an estimated combined cost of $5.84 billion and has filed plans for two more buildings valued at $1.2 billion.
