The Reserve Bank of India will auction government securities worth Rs25,000 crore on October 13 in an open-market sale to drain system liquidity, using a multi-security auction with the multiple price method.

Why it matters: An outright OMO sale of this size mops up durable liquidity and can put upward pressure on bond yields, signaling RBI's comfort draining cash days before a scheduled variable-rate reverse-repo auction.

The Reserve Bank of India announced on Friday that it will conduct an open-market sale auction of Government of India securities for an aggregate Rs25,000 crore on October 13, 2026, citing its review of current and evolving liquidity conditions. Six securities are on offer, from the 7.88% GS 2030 to the 7.10% GS 2034, with no security-wise notified amount, and the RBI reserves the right to accept bids for less than the aggregate amount or reject bids without assigning reasons. Eligible participants must submit bids electronically on the E-Kuber system between 9:30 and 10:30 am on October 13, with results announced the same day and successful participants required to have funds available by noon on October 14. The sale comes days before the RBI’s scheduled 3-day variable-rate reverse-repo auction on October 12, making it a two-step liquidity withdrawal in the same week.
