All three Kyiv metro lines halted Saturday after Russian strikes damaged an energy facility outside the capital, with drone debris also hitting a 25-story apartment building.
Why it matters: The halt of the metro, a critical wartime shelter and transport artery, signals a renewed Russian campaign against Ukraine's power grid as winter approaches.
Data as of Via Ukrainska Pravda, in Ukrainian (article opened and read directly, translated). The metro halt is corroborated by UNIAN and RIA Novosti; damage claims are from Kyiv city authorities and the Ukrainian military.
Kyiv temporarily stopped train and escalator service across all three metro lines Saturday after losing voltage from external power centers, the Kyiv city administration said. Officials blamed damage to an energy facility in the Kyiv region, and the capital also reported electricity and water supply disruptions.
Electric transport was suspended in the Holosiivskyi district and parts of the Solomianskyi, Shevchenkivskyi and Pecherskyi districts. In Solomianskyi, drone debris fell on a 25-story residential building and an 8-story office building, according to city authorities. Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the drone strikes, and UNIAN reported all three metro branches shut.
