TypeSafe AI has raised $870 million at a $7.5 billion valuation, led by Andreessen Horowitz with participation from Sequoia and existing investor DCVC, just three and a half weeks after launching Jev on September 15. The company was founded in 2024 by ex-OpenAI researcher Diogo Almeida, ex-Meta research engineer Sasha Sheng, and Erik Gafni.
Jev is a transformer-based model, but not a large language model: instead of generating text, it outputs probabilities, which TypeSafe calls “calibrated decisions,” positioned for automating business tasks. The company claims Jev runs faster and uses far fewer tokens than LLMs, and says a third of Fortune 500 companies already use it, a figure that is TypeSafe’s own assertion.
The valuation reflects how quickly the venture market is re-pricing anything that looks like agentic automation beyond chat. The competitive response was immediate: Microsoft launched its own decision model, Microsoft-Decision-1, this week, built on Alibaba’s open-weights Qwen3.5-9B base, and the field now counts more than 100 decision models on Hugging Face alongside new APIs from OpenAI, Cloudflare, and Snowflake.
