Bristol Myers lung drug meets endpoint at lower dose only

Bristol Myers Squibb said its experimental lung disease drug admilparant met the main goal of a Phase 3 trial in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis at a 60 milligram dose, while the higher 120 milligram dose did not reach statistical significance.

Why it matters: Admilparant would be the first drug of its class for a fatal lung-scarring disease with few treatments, but the inverted dose response leaves analysts asking how strong the effect is before full data are published.

Data as of Monday, October 12, 2026. Company topline release and independent trade and wire coverage of the ALOFT-IPF readout; full trial data are not yet published. Developing item, 2 to 3 sentences by design.

In the ALOFT-IPF trial, which enrolled about 1,255 people with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, admilparant at 60 milligrams twice daily significantly slowed the decline in forced vital capacity, a measure of lung function, over 52 weeks against placebo, while the 120 milligram dose slowed the decline without reaching statistical significance. The company said the oral drug, a potential first-in-class LPA1 antagonist, was well tolerated at both doses, with discontinuations due to adverse events low and similar to placebo.

An RBC Capital Markets analyst called the high-dose result confounding and said it requires further explanation, and Bristol Myers said it will complete a full assessment of the data, discuss planned regulatory submissions with health authorities, and present detailed results at a future medical meeting. A separate Phase 3 trial in progressive pulmonary fibrosis is expected to report topline results in early 2027.
