Nordic Mining ASA (OSE: NOM) produced 2,190 tonnes of rutile in the third quarter of 2026, up 74 percent from 1,262 tonnes in Q2, and 11,161 tonnes of garnet, up 10 percent from 10,127 tonnes, the company said in its production update. Ore milled rose 7 percent to 311,122 tonnes. The company said it delivered on the updated production plan announced in August: garnet came in about 20 percent ahead of plan and rutile on plan. Production volumes trended positively toward the end of September.
The result follows a difficult ramp-up at the Engebo rutile and garnet project in western Norway. A dedicated ramp-up team from engineering firm Hatch was onboarded during the quarter to stabilise plant feed, improve grinding processes and optimise the wet and dry plants. The company also disclosed that October operations have so far seen minor interruptions related to local protests, though the plant remains operational and producing. Nordic Mining’s stock has lost more than 95 percent of its value year to date, reflecting the market’s judgment on the ramp-up so far.
Engebo is being developed as a dual-mineral rutile and garnet operation with a stated 39-year mine life, positioned as a climate-friendly, hydropower-fed source of natural rutile for titanium dioxide pigment makers and of garnet for abrasives. The Q3 release is the first production readout under the company’s commitment to publish quarterly production data within five business days of quarter end. The Q3 financial results on November 3 will show whether the tonnage gains translate into cash: the previous quarterly report showed limited revenues and continued operating losses during the ramp-up.
