MISC lines up five more LNG carriers for Petronas. The Malaysian shipping group has accepted a letter of award from Petronas LNG covering five new LNG carriers on firm 20-year charters, with the ships expected to enter service from 2030. MISC said it would enter into shipbuilding contracts with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, part of China State Shipbuilding Corporation. The award doubles an earlier five-vessel programme at the same yard, taking the combined order to ten vessels, with the first five scheduled to begin employment between 2029 and 2030.
Sweden releases a sanctioned shadow fleet tanker. Swedish authorities have cleared the tanker Sea Owl 1 to leave after nearly seven months at anchor off Trelleborg, following confirmation that the vessel is now legitimately registered under the flag of Equatorial Guinea. The Swedish Transport Agency lifted an operating ban imposed in March, after the vessel was found falsely flying the flag of Comoros and an attempt to reflag to Cameroon also proved invalid. The vessel remains on the European Union’s sanctions list over its involvement in Russia’s oil trade, and Swedish authorities said it is not suspected of sanctions violations. Two other vessels remain subject to Swedish enforcement measures.
