Jury finds Arm breached Qualcomm license, awards two dollars

Technology Tuesday, October 13, 2026 · Updated Oct 13, 2026 14:52

A Delaware federal jury found on Tuesday that Arm Holdings breached its architectural license agreement with Qualcomm and intentionally interfered with Qualcomm's relationship with Meta, then awarded Qualcomm nominal damages of just $2.

Why it matters: The verdict ends the second trial in two years between the chip industry's licensor and its biggest licensee with the principle decided for Qualcomm and the money decided for Arm, which said the jury found for it on four claims and stressed the $1 per claim award.

Data as of Tuesday, October 13, 2026. Reuters report opened and read in full; Arm's own statement on the verdict is the second source. Share moves are Reuters reporting of afternoon trading on October 13. Developing item, 2 to 3 sentences by design.

The five-day trial was the pair’s second in two years, and Reuters tied the breakdown between them to SoftBank’s 2016 takeover of Arm and Arm’s shift from pure licensing toward selling chips of its own, which puts it in competition with customers like Qualcomm. Arm shares fell about 1% after the verdict and Qualcomm’s rose about 1%, a market verdict that matches the split legal one: Qualcomm gets the finding that its license was breached, Arm keeps the billions Qualcomm had sought out of reach.
