Swedish carrier Telia has announced plans to cut 900 jobs by the end of this year, across its operations in the Nordics and Baltics. The company employs around 14,000 people in Sweden, Finland, Norway, Estonia and Lithuania, so the cuts are about 6 percent of the workforce.
Telia says the layoffs will generate SEK 1 billion in annual gross savings, reported as $99.96 million. The breakdown is 280 jobs in Finland, 260 in Sweden, 150 in Norway, 110 in Lithuania and 100 in Estonia. The cuts cover employees and resource consultants across all units, are subject to customary union negotiations, and will be completed by December 31, 2026. Telia expects restructuring charges of approximately SEK 600 million, about $59.9 million, in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the cash flow effect mainly in 2027.
President and chief executive Patrik Hofbauer framed the move as further localization, strengthening country units and getting more from the common technology unit and group functions in a competitive market.
This is the latest in a sequence. Telia confirmed 600 job cuts in January, and in December 2024 it finalized an organizational restructure that cut 3,000 jobs. The pattern is a group steadily pushing decision-making and cost out to country units while the central cost base keeps shrinking.
