CoreWeave bonds slide into distress as shares fall 14 percent

Infrastructure Wednesday, October 14, 2026 · Updated Oct 14, 2026 14:43

CoreWeave shares fell about 14 percent on Wednesday to near 67 dollars after a selloff in its bonds pushed the yield on its 9.625 percent notes due 2032 to 15.06 percent, up from 13.42 percent at the start of October, with the notes trading at 79.50 dollars.

Why it matters: CoreWeave is the purest listed test of AI data centre credit, and a 15 percent yield on its unsecured paper says lenders, not equity investors, are now setting the price of the buildout for leveraged neoclouds.

Data as of Wednesday, October 14, 2026, intraday. Bond and share figures are MoneyCheck's report of Wednesday trading, read in full, corroborating Bloomberg's report that the bonds have fallen to distressed levels; debt and lease obligations of about 52 billion dollars are the end of June figure carried in that reporting.

CoreWeave’s credit sold off hard on Wednesday and its equity followed. The company’s 9.625 percent notes due 2032 traded at 79.50 dollars, down from 85 at the start of the month, lifting their yield to 15.06 percent from 13.42 percent, levels that typically signal distress. The shares fell about 14 percent to near 67 dollars, down 20 percent in October and more than half below their 52 week high, after a chart of the bond yield posted by Chamath Palihapitiya drew a one word reply from Elon Musk: “Yikes.”

The balance sheet is the argument. CoreWeave has raised more than 35 billion dollars this year through chip backed loans, high yield and convertible bonds and stock sales, and its debt and lease obligations totalled about 52 billion dollars at the end of June. D.A. Davidson analyst Gil Luria argued the company borrows at around 9 percent while earning about 1 percent on its investments. Peers fell in sympathy, with Oracle and Nebius lower and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index down for a sixth straight session.
