Politics Wednesday, October 14, 2026 · Updated Oct 14, 2026 05:48

The European Commission disbursed 2.86 billion euros to Ukraine under the defence component of the 90 billion euro Ukraine Support Loan, to pay for drones, air defence systems, missiles, radars, electronic warfare systems and ammunition.

Why it matters: The money is the loan's defence tranche moving from pledge to hardware funding, with 28.3 billion euros planned for Ukraine's defence industrial capacity in 2026 alone and further disbursements due in the coming weeks.

Data as of European Commission press release IP/26/2153, dated October 13, 2026, Brussels, opened and read in full in a live browser session. Developing item, 2 to 3 sentences by design.

The disbursement is part of the 90 billion euro Ukraine Support Loan adopted in February 2026, split indicatively into 60 billion euros for defence and 30 billion euros for budget support over 2026 and 2027. The Commission said total EU and member state support since 2022 now stands at 231.5 billion euros, including 3.8 billion euros from proceeds of immobilised Russian assets, and that 29.64 billion euros remains available for the rest of 2026 subject to agreed conditions and monitoring.
