Fortuna Mining reported new drilling at its Diamba Sud project in Senegal that extends the deposit at depth. The highlighted hole, DSR1149 in the Southern Arc zone, cut 40.8 metres grading 3.9 grams of gold per tonne from 228 metres downhole, according to Northern Miner reporting of the results.
Trade coverage framed the drilling as capable of expanding the property’s mineral reserve. Diamba Sud is Fortuna’s principal growth project in West Africa, in a gold belt that hosts several operating mines in Senegal and neighbouring Mali. Depth extensions matter because they test whether the system continues below the currently modelled pit and underground shapes, rather than simply infilling known mineralisation.
No updated resource or reserve estimate accompanied the results, and no development decision, capex figure or timetable was announced with them. The next value step is follow up drilling and an updated technical estimate that converts intercepts into mineable inventory.
Fortuna trades as FSM in New York and FVI in Toronto. Gold miners fell 1.46 percent in the October 14 market table even as gold itself eased only 0.19 percent to $4,169.30 an ounce, so drill results of this size rarely move the group tape on their own.
