Digi Power X lines up $200 million for Alabama campus

Technology Thursday, October 15, 2026 - Updated Oct 15, 2026 07:04

Digi Power X received a $200 million debt financing commitment, syndicated by Goldman Sachs, to complete its 40 megawatt AI data center in Columbiana, Alabama, where Cerebras has taken the full capacity.

Why it matters: A former crypto miner is funding AI capacity with project level debt instead of equity issuance, and the commitment is conditional, expected to close within 90 days subject to lender diligence, which makes the closing a dated test of lender appetite for second tier AI landlords.

Data as of Company announcement Oct 13, 2026, reported Oct 14. Financing is a commitment letter, not a closed loan; the lender is unnamed. Flagged single source in the gap check and corroborated against the company's own release.

Digi Power X has secured a $200 million debt financing commitment for its AI data center in Columbiana, Alabama. The financing, syndicated by Goldman Sachs and provided by an unnamed major lending institution, will be structured at project level through a special purpose vehicle, with an unsecured company guarantee through completion. The company, which announced the commitment on October 13, expects it to close within 90 days subject to definitive documentation and the lender completing diligence.

The project totals 40 megawatts of IT capacity in two phases, 15 megawatts followed by 25 megawatts, due by the end of 2026 and the end of the first quarter of 2027 respectively, and the company says construction remains on schedule. Cerebras, the wafer scale chip company, signed for the site’s full capacity in May 2026, which gives the loan a named anchor tenant.

The balance sheet context is in the release. Digi Power X held about $135 million in cash and had invested about $153 million in capital expenditures in 2026, and it issued no shares under its at the market program in the third quarter, a point the company emphasises because project debt is meant to preserve liquidity and limit dilution.

The company, formerly the crypto miner Digihost, now operates through US Data Centers and runs modular compute units, with sites in Columbiana and in Buffalo and North Tonawanda, New York, where conversion plans have been slowed by a local data center moratorium enacted in June 2026. The Alabama closing, due around January, is the near term proof point.
