The Financial Stability Board published its final report on sound practices for the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence on October 15, setting out 12 practices covering board-level AI governance and risk management across the AI lifecycle, and strongly encouraging banks to build them into their control frameworks.

Why it matters: The report lands on the day G20 finance ministers and central bank governors meet, with AI on the stability agenda, and it gives supervisors a shared checklist, including human oversight and third-party dependency risks, against which to judge banks' AI use.

Data as of Thursday, October 15, 2026, overnight Toronto time. FSB press release and final report page, opened and read in full at fsb.org; the practices are guidance the board strongly encourages, not binding rules. Developing item, 2 to 3 sentences by design.

The Financial Stability Board finalised its sound practices for responsible AI adoption in finance on Thursday, following a public consultation launched in June, organising 12 practices around organisation-wide governance and risk management across the full AI lifecycle. The governance group puts boards and senior management in charge of aligning AI adoption with strategy and risk appetite, while the lifecycle group covers use-case risk assessment, data governance, explainability, performance evaluation, human oversight, cyber risk and third-party AI dependencies. The board said it strongly encourages financial institutions to reference the practices in their own frameworks and that it will update them as the technology evolves.
