Israel halts commercial goods entering Gaza for two days

Politics Thursday, October 15, 2026 · Updated Oct 15, 2026 18:43

No commercial goods have entered Gaza for two days, Israeli authorities said, in a halt each side blames on the other and that cuts off fruit, meat and winter clothing ahead of winter.

Why it matters: Commercial shipments carry much of the perishable food for Gaza's 2.1 million people, and aid groups say aid alone cannot keep market prices under control.

Data as of Al Jazeera report on October 15, 2026 carrying statements from COGAT, Gaza's government media office and Gaza's private truckers union; the underlying tax and responsibility claims are disputed by both sides and are reported here as claims, single-sourced in this run, so graded C.

Israeli authorities say no commercial goods have entered Gaza for two days. COGAT, the Israeli military body overseeing humanitarian affairs in Gaza, said local merchants halted shipments in response to what it described as a 10,000 shekel fee imposed by Hamas on each entering truck and a demand that 30 percent of sales be in cash. Gaza’s government media office denied that account on Thursday, calling the fee a voluntary payment to an aid fund and saying cash payments were encouraged, not required, while the head of Gaza’s private truckers union said Israel itself imposed the restrictions.
