The Maine Public Employees Retirement System has committed up to $280 million to Meridiam’s North America Core Infrastructure Fund I, according to the pension’s board materials, with initial capital deployed in September. The fund follows a greenfield, build to core strategy in long term contracted North American projects.
The commitment takes MainePERS infrastructure allocations in 2026 to $580 million, including an earlier $300 million to Brookfield Super Core Infrastructure Partners. It extends an existing Meridiam relationship: the pension had previously committed a combined $421 million to other funds managed by the firm.
The allocation is notable for its starting point. MainePERS, a system of about $23 billion, holds roughly $5.4 billion in real assets, about 23.5 percent of total assets and above its target allocation, with infrastructure accounting for about $2.3 billion of that. A board that is already overweight real assets adding two large core infrastructure tickets in one year is a statement about contracted, inflation linked cash flows rather than about filling an allocation gap.
For Meridiam, a US public pension anchor of this size for a first core fund continues the firm’s shift from its European PPP base toward North American greenfield concessions.
