Meta has been identified as the company behind a planned data center campus on almost 3,000 acres in Mason County, Kentucky, under a community benefits agreement carrying a 10 billion dollar investment.

Why it matters: The identification puts a named hyperscaler, a 40 year tax break and a possible 2.2 gigawatts of capacity behind one of the largest rural campus proposals in the current buildout.

Meta was identified at an October 13 Mason County Fiscal Court meeting as the company planning a data center campus on almost 3,000 acres in Kentucky, Datacenter Dynamics reported, citing the Ledger Independent. Under the community benefits agreement passed by county commissioners, Meta will invest 10 billion dollars in the project, contribute 115 million dollars to roads, water treatment and pipelines, and receive a 40 year break on local property taxes, with more than 4,000 construction jobs and 300 long term roles expected.

A 2,080 acre parcel in the area was rezoned for data center use in May, with documents pointing to six buildings and three substations and power capacity possibly reaching 2.2 gigawatts. Meta said it would pay the full cost of the power it uses and invest in schools, workforce training and local infrastructure.
