Paragon Therapeutics has spun out its ninth company, sending a portfolio of cardiopulmonary drugs into a new entity, Velaris, which will go public through a reverse merger with the listed shell Alaunos Therapeutics, Endpoints News and BioPharma Dive reported. Two senior executives from Apogee Therapeutics are joining Paragon to help scale its company creation engine.
The structure is the story. Paragon’s model builds companies around single programmes with shared infrastructure, and the reverse merger gives the newest one a public listing and a cash holding shell without an IPO window. Alaunos, a formerly operating biotech whose own programmes stalled, becomes the vehicle, a recycling pattern that has become standard for getting private assets public in a selective market.
For the sector, the item is a data point about exits: with Iambic’s conventional IPO pricing the same week, company creators now have both doors open, and which one a given asset uses says a great deal about how public investors would have priced it.
