PLS lifts Pilgangoora lithium reserves by 31 percent

Mining Thursday, October 15, 2026 · Updated Oct 15, 2026 19:42

PLS said the ore reserve at its Pilgangoora lithium operations in Western Australia rose to 249.2 million tonnes at 1.24 percent lithium oxide, a 23 percent rise in tonnes and a 31 percent rise in contained lithium, including a first underground reserve.

Why it matters: A larger, higher grade reserve at one of the world's biggest hard rock lithium mines supports the P2000 expansion and a mine life beyond 25 years, lengthening the supply base the battery chain plans around.

Data as of Australian Mining report published October 15, 2026, opened and read in full. Single trade-press source reporting the PLS announcement, so this developing item is grade C.

PLS has reported a substantial lift in reserves at its wholly owned Pilgangoora operations in Western Australia, taking the ore reserve to 249.2 million tonnes at 1.24 percent lithium oxide, about 3.1 million tonnes of contained lithium. The update follows completion of the P200 expansion feasibility work and an underground pre-feasibility study, and includes a maiden underground reserve of 46.5 million tonnes at 1.50 percent.

The company put the gain down to better metallurgical understanding and the new Jimmagunya plant, which lets more mineralised material be recovered economically. The larger reserve supports about 20 years of open pit operation on the P2000 schedule and more than 25 years including underground material, while the total mineral resource was put at 403 million tonnes at 1.33 percent.
