Slovakia has connected the fourth unit of the Mochovce nuclear power plant, a reactor of about 470 MW, to the national power grid.
Why it matters: At full power the unit is expected to generate about 13 percent of the electricity Slovakia consumes, lifting the nuclear share of its generation to 77.5 percent.
Data as of Thursday, October 15, 2026, 17:47 ET. The connection follows a delay announced on October 13, when operator Slovenske Elektrarne postponed synchronisation to repeat a technical test.
Slovakia has connected the fourth unit of the Mochovce nuclear power plant to the national grid, the Slovak outlet DennikN reported, in a milestone first expected on October 13 and then postponed so the operator could repeat a technical test. The unit has a capacity of about 470 MW.
Once the unit reaches full power it is expected to generate about 13 percent of the electricity consumed in Slovakia, taking the nuclear share of the country’s generation to 77.5 percent. Fuel loading at the reactor began on June 29, and Bloomberg reported the connection as a boost for Slovak power exports.
