Abry completes sale of netnumber to Transaction Network Services

Abry Partners has completed the sale of netnumber, the phone number intelligence and registry services provider it built as a standalone platform from 2022, to Transaction Network Services, for undisclosed terms.

Why it matters: Telecom's invisible registries are consolidating: number intelligence underpins fraud prevention and call routing worldwide, and TNS is buying the data layer rather than building it.

Data as of Abry Partners announcement, October 15, 2026. Completed sale; financial terms not disclosed.

Abry Partners has completed the sale of netnumber to Transaction Network Services (TNS), the Boston firm announced, ending a hold that began in July 2022 when Abry acquired netnumber’s Global Data Services division and established it as a standalone platform. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Netnumber provides phone number intelligence, registry services and fraud prevention and digital identity products to carriers and enterprises in the United States and more than 50 other countries. It is part of the unglamorous data layer that tells networks where a number lives, whether it has been ported, and whether traffic claiming to come from it can be trusted.

Under Abry the company broadened its product portfolio across intelligence, registry and identity lines and invested in its commercial organisation. For TNS, which operates transaction and communications infrastructure for payments and telecom customers, the acquisition adds a registry asset whose value rises with every anti-fraud rule regulators impose on voice and messaging traffic.
