Anthropic has signed a lease of at least 20 years for the first phase of EverWind's planned 420 megawatt data centre campus at Point Tupper, Nova Scotia, its first data centre agreement in Canada.

Why it matters: EverWind puts the campus and four supporting wind farms at more than C$10 billion, which it calls the largest privately funded investment in the province's history, with the first 95 megawatts due online by the end of 2027.

Anthropic will lease the first phase of EverWind Fuels’ data centre campus at Point Tupper, outside Port Hawkesbury in Cape Breton, for at least 20 years, the companies said on Friday, in what Reuters reported as the Claude maker’s first data centre agreement in Canada. The campus is planned in two phases, 95 megawatts online by the end of 2027 and a further 325 megawatts in 2028, and land clearing is already under way.

EverWind said it is raising $8 billion in private capital for the project and a further $2 billion for four onshore wind farms, and will pay for any upgrades the provincial grid needs. A consortium of Mi’kmaw communities fronted by Membertou First Nation is negotiating a nine percent equity stake.
