Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Indonesia’s second largest telecom operator, has deepened its partnership with Google Cloud on artificial intelligence and data centre services, the latest move in the contest to build Indonesia’s AI infrastructure onshore. The collaboration spans cloud regions, enterprise AI services and the data centre capacity to run them inside Indonesian jurisdiction.
Indonesia’s rules make the local partner indispensable. Data localisation requirements and the government’s digital sovereignty agenda mean global cloud providers scale through Indonesian champions, and Indosat, backed by Ooredoo and CK Hutchison, is positioning as the carrier grade platform for that demand.
The regional pattern is consistent: in market after market, from India to Indonesia, the hyperscalers are pairing with incumbent telecom groups that hold the spectrum, the enterprise relationships and the regulatory standing. The capital commitments follow the partnerships, which is why a cloud announcement in Jakarta belongs in the same file as fab incentives in Texas.
