Poland sold 8.65 billion zloty of bonds at its latest switch and cash auction, the finance ministry announced, placing the sale comfortably inside the 6 billion to 11 billion zloty range on offer. Total bids reached 10.61 billion zloty.
The result matters beyond Warsaw. Poland runs the largest funding programme in central and eastern Europe, financing defence expansion and energy investment, and its auctions set the reference point for Czech, Hungarian and Romanian supply. A bid to cover above the offer midpoint, without a pricing tail, says the region’s duration is still being absorbed.
The contrast inside the region is the story of the week: Poland funding at scale in the market while Hungary’s central bank holds rates for a thirteenth month against 7.9 percent inflation. Same energy shock, two very different fiscal monetary mixes.
