Vista Equity Partners has agreed to acquire the public key infrastructure (PKI) business unit of HID Global, PE Hub reported on Friday, citing its exclusive reporting. Financial terms were not disclosed, and neither Vista nor ASSA ABLOY, HID’s Swedish parent, had published an announcement at the time of the report.
HID’s PKI business issues and manages the digital certificates that authenticate users, devices and services, including through its IdenTrust certificate authority, which serves financial institutions, healthcare providers, government agencies and enterprises. It is the digital half of a group better known for physical access: doors, locks and credentials.
For ASSA ABLOY the sale, if completed, is portfolio pruning of a software asset inside an industrial access group. For Vista, whose model is buying enterprise software at scale and professionalising it, a certificate authority with regulated, recurring demand is a characteristic target. This story ships at grade C because the agreement rests on a single trade report with no disclosed terms.
