Celestica has debuted the DS6005, a co-packaged optics network switch for AI clusters, showcased at this week’s OCP event in San Jose. The 64 port switch is designed for scale up and scale out networking and offers up to 102.4 terabits per second of switching capacity, with Broadcom’s Tomahawk 6 silicon and optical engines integrated directly onto the switch ASIC. The unit is fully liquid cooled and compliant with the SONiC open networking standard.
Celestica executive Gavin Cato said AI infrastructure is driving unprecedented demand for bandwidth while power, thermal management, latency and reach become tighter constraints, and described the platform as bringing co-packaged optics, liquid cooling and field replaceable external laser modules together for power efficient AI fabrics. Broadcom’s Manish Mehta described the launch as demonstrating how co-packaged optics moves from advanced architecture to production ready systems.
Celestica joins Nvidia and Broadcom itself in offering co-packaged optics switches, and recently joined a Lightmatter led effort to develop open specifications for the technology. The clustering of launches matters: optical switching startup Salience Labs raised 125 million dollars in today’s edition on the same thesis, that the network is now the constraint on AI cluster scale.
