The World Bank and IMF Development Committee closed its Bangkok meeting noting $124 billion in World Bank Group financing in fiscal 2026 and $112 billion in private capital mobilised, and warning that global resilience should not be taken for granted.

Why it matters: The committee's own figures set the scale of official development finance heading into the IDA22 replenishment, and its chair passes from Sweden's Elisabeth Svantesson to Japan's finance minister, Satsuki Katayama.

Data as of Chair's Statement of the 114th Development Committee meeting, held October 15, 2026 in Bangkok and issued October 17, 2026, read in full from the primary document. Single primary source, the agreed committee text itself, hence grade B.

The Development Committee, the joint ministerial committee of the World Bank Group and the IMF, met on October 15 in Bangkok and said the global economy has weathered the latest series of shocks better than expected, while warning that continued resilience should not be taken for granted and that wars and supply chain disruptions fall hardest on the poorest. The chair’s statement noted total financing using World Bank Group resources reached $124 billion in fiscal 2026, with private capital mobilisation rising to $112 billion, and pointed to social safety net programmes benefiting 234 million people and electricity access for 59 million under Mission 300. Members reiterated support for IDA ahead of its 22nd replenishment, welcomed the refreshed fragility and conflict strategy, and thanked outgoing chair Elisabeth Svantesson of Sweden, whose successor is Japan’s finance minister, Satsuki Katayama. The next meeting is in April 2027 in Washington.
