The Odisha cabinet has approved a government data center project costing 176.83 crore rupees, or 18.62 million dollars, to be established on the south campus of Dharanidhar University in Keonjhar. The Odisha State Data Centre will act as a disaster recovery facility for the primary site in Bhubaneswar, which has operated since 2011 and is reported to host more than 600 government applications.
Of the total, 16.22 million dollars is capital expenditure and 2.4 million dollars covers operating expenses over five years. More than 17 million dollars is provided as a grant by the Fifth State Finance Commission, with the remainder from the state Electronics and Information Technology Department’s data center maintenance budget. The facility, with independent power, cooling, network and computing infrastructure, is expected to take around nine months to set up, with Krystal Integrated Services contracted to assist.
The approval is small beside hyperscale campuses, but it is part of the same Indian buildout pattern visible in today’s Nvidia Indic corpus story and this week’s Chennai and Mumbai items: capacity, language data and government resilience being built at state level as well as by global operators.
