Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Sunday that Tehran's offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz is still on the table, with the waterway open within six days if Washington accepts Iran's conditions and talks resuming on the seventh day.
Why it matters: Hormuz has been closed for months and crude has held above 100 dollars a barrel, so a dated Iranian reopening sequence, even a conditional one relayed secondhand, is the first timetable attached to the strait by either side in this round.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi told Iranian media outlets on Sunday that Iran’s offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days is still on the table, Arab News reported. If Washington accepts Tehran’s conditions, he said, the waterway would be open within six days and United States-Iran talks would resume on the seventh day.
The report did not state what Iran’s conditions are, and it carried no United States response. The strait has been effectively closed through the eighth month of the war, cutting off about a fifth of world oil supply, and Gulf Arab states were separately reported on Sunday calling on Iran to guarantee freedom of navigation through Hormuz and asking to be included in any United States-Iran negotiations.
