JPMorgan puts five billion into security startups in year one

Infrastructure Monday, October 19, 2026 · Updated Oct 19, 2026 07:17

JPMorgan Chase has deployed 5 billion dollars in direct startup investments in the first year of its United States security and resiliency initiative, halfway to its 10 billion dollar goal for the decade, CNBC reported on Monday.

Why it matters: The pace is faster than the bank expected, co-president Doug Petno said it may expand the programme beyond 10 billion dollars, and the direct stakes mark a shift for a bank that had moved away from startup investing as too risky.

Data as of Monday, October 19, 2026, updated 07:17 ET by the morning edition: the 5 billion dollar first-year deployment was reported independently by CNBC and by Investing.com on October 19, 2026; the named portfolio companies, the 1.5 trillion dollar facilitation plan and the 230 billion dollar first-year figure are CNBC's reporting. The deployment has not been detailed in a JPMorgan release in the feed queue.

JPMorgan Chase has put 5 billion dollars into startup investments in the first year of its security and resiliency initiative, halfway to the 10 billion dollar direct investment goal it set for a decade, CNBC reported on Monday. Most of the stakes have not been disclosed; the two named are Hadrian, which builds automated factories for defence, aerospace and maritime parts and raised 1.4 billion dollars in an August round JPMorgan helped lead, and Castelion, a hypersonic missile maker founded by former SpaceX engineers that raised 1 billion dollars the same month. The direct investments sit inside a wider plan to finance and facilitate 1.5 trillion dollars over 10 years for industries tied to national security, of which the bank says it handled more than 230 billion dollars in the first year.
