KKR has agreed to sell Infinity Transportation to funds of Ares Management for an enterprise value of about 2.9 billion dollars, the two firms announced on Monday. The buyers are Ares Infrastructure Equity and Ares Insurance Solutions funds, and the deal is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, with closing expected in the first quarter of 2027.
Infinity, founded in 2004, owns and manages about 50,000 railcars leased to more than 350 lessees across the United States, Canada and Mexico, making it one of the largest railcar lessors in the United States. KKR’s wholly owned subsidiary Global Atlantic has invested in the company since 2016, and since 2021 Infinity has run as a standalone platform under KKR’s support, increasing its book value by 150 percent as the fleet grew.
Ares said it intends to use its infrastructure investing capabilities and scaled capital to back Infinity’s management team, continued fleet growth and customer relationships across North America. KKR’s Daniel Pietrzak, partner and head of asset based finance, framed the exit as an example of scaling an asset based finance platform into an industry leader over a decade of patient capital.
