Kinder Morgan sanctions two gas pipelines, 4.7 billion dollar share

Infrastructure Wednesday, October 21, 2026 - Updated Oct 21, 2026 19:29

Kinder Morgan said on Wednesday that Southern Natural Gas and Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America had reached final investment decisions on two projects, the Southeast Connector and Permian Link, together carrying a 4.7 billion dollar Kinder Morgan share of costs and 5.4 billion cubic feet a day of new natural gas capacity.

Why it matters: Both projects rest on long-term take-or-pay contracts and target the two fastest growing United States gas loads, Southeast power demand and new generation for a hyperscaler data centre customer, and they lift Kinder Morgan's project backlog sharply, with first service not due until 2030.

Data as of Kinder Morgan third quarter 2026 results release of October 21, 2026, read in full, announcing both final investment decisions with project costs, capacities and in-service dates; corroborated by Investing.com and Bloomberg Law reports of the same announcement on October 21, 2026. Kinder Morgan said Southern Natural Gas, its joint venture with Southern Company, had reached a final investment decision on the Southeast Connector after securing long-term take-or-pay agreements, a project of up to 2.6 billion cubic feet a day over about 470 miles of new pipeline and compression for Southeast markets, with a Kinder Morgan share of cost of 3.1 billion dollars and phased service from the fourth quarter of 2030. Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America reached a final investment decision on Permian Link, a 4.2 billion dollar project, of which Kinder Morgan’s share is about 1.6 billion dollars, moving about 2.8 billion cubic feet a day over about 434 miles to serve new power generation for an A-rated hyperscaler under long-term take-or-pay agreements, with service expected in the third quarter of 2030. The two decisions, announced with record third-quarter results, add 4.7 billion dollars of Kinder Morgan-share projects aimed at power and data centre gas demand.
