Vantage signs 1GW solid-state transformer deal with Heron Power

Infrastructure Wednesday, October 21, 2026 - Updated Oct 21, 2026 12:17

Vantage Data Centers has signed a supply agreement with Heron Power for more than 1 gigawatt of solid-state transformers, to support 800-volt DC racks across its hyperscale data center portfolio.

Why it matters: Power conversion is a binding constraint on AI buildout schedules, and a gigawatt-scale order moves solid-state transformers from reference designs into contracted deployment, with Heron Link targeting over 98.5 percent efficiency from medium voltage to the rack.

Vantage Data Centers has signed an agreement with Heron Power, a US solid-state transformer manufacturer founded in 2024 by former Tesla executive Drew Baglino, to secure more than 1 gigawatt of its Heron Link units for deployment across Vantage’s hyperscale portfolio, supporting the operator’s move to 800-volt DC racks. Heron Link is a 5-megawatt modular converter with integrated energy storage that targets more than 98.5 percent efficiency from medium voltage to 800 volts DC, and the companies said the design reduces conversion stages and simplifies the path from the grid to the rack.

Heron said in August that its first large-scale factory, at Morgan Hill, California, is expected to manufacture up to 10,000 Heron Links a year, representing 40 gigawatts on an annual basis, after a 140 million dollar Series B round took its total funding to 183 million dollars.
