AbbVie lutikizumab meets Phase 3 endpoint in hidradenitis suppurativa

Life Sciences Thursday, October 22, 2026 - Updated Oct 22, 2026 10:50

AbbVie's lutikizumab met the primary endpoint of its Phase 3 INTREPID trial in hidradenitis suppurativa, with 31.4 percent of treated patients reaching a 75 percent reduction in abscess and nodule count at week 16, against 23.4 percent on placebo.

Why it matters: The result gives AbbVie a second immunology mechanism in a disease with few approved options, and the company plans regulatory submissions in the second half of 2027 once 36 week extension data are in.

Data as of AbbVie news release, October 22, 2026, read in full; the trial figures are the company's own topline results, with full data to be presented at a future medical congress. Developing item.

AbbVie said lutikizumab, its dual IL-1 alpha and IL-1 beta antagonist, met the primary endpoint and eight ranked secondary endpoints in the 1,400 patient INTREPID trial, with skin pain response at week 8 in 26.2 percent of treated patients against 15.0 percent on placebo and flares over 16 weeks in 18.4 percent against 28.1 percent. Adverse event rates were similar to placebo, at 53.4 percent against 53.7 percent for any event and 3.0 percent against 2.9 percent for serious events, and the company identified no new safety concerns. AbbVie expects data from the 36 week blinded extension in 2027 to support regulatory submissions in the second half of that year, and plans a platform study starting this year that tests lutikizumab with its long acting amylin drug ABBV-295.
