EU group says diesel and jet supplies remain tight

Commodities Thursday, October 22, 2026 - Updated Oct 22, 2026 04:43

The European Commission's Oil Coordination Group said on Thursday that diesel and jet supplies in Europe remain tight, though there is currently no physical shortage of either product.

Why it matters: Europe's own oil stocktake confirms its middle distillate market is the exposed flank of the current oil disruption, and Brussels is opening a strategic dialogue with EU refineries rather than announcing new supply measures.

Data as of European Commission statement of October 22, 2026, read in full. The statement is the Commission's own account of the Oil Coordination Group meeting held the previous day with EU countries, the International Energy Agency and the Energy Community. Developing item.

Experts from the European Commission, EU countries, the International Energy Agency and the Energy Community met in the Oil Coordination Group to take stock of recent developments in fuel markets, the Commission said. In view of continued global geopolitical uncertainty affecting oil markets, the group confirmed that diesel and jet supplies remain tight, while there is currently no physical shortage of these products in Europe, and the Commission said it will keep monitoring the situation very closely with EU countries and the IEA in light of the risk of further disruptions.

The Commission also updated the group on the launch of a strategic dialogue with EU refineries, following the European Council meeting of October 15 and 16, to be chaired by Commissioners Dan Jørgensen and Andrius Kubilius, and the IEA briefed the meeting on the Governing Board outcome of October 15 on the timely release of the volumes remaining under the March 2026 collective action.
