Microsoft has filed for a data centre campus in Floyd County, Georgia. In a Development of Regional Impact application submitted on October 20, the company said it is seeking to build a three building campus on 349 acres at 0 Huffaker Road in Rome, a property it acquired in 2023 under the name Project Firecracker.
The campus, dubbed ATL80, will total up to 1,659,000 square feet across the three buildings. Microsoft estimates the project will be valued at 360 million dollars once built out and will provide 35 million dollars in annual local tax revenue. Total power capacity will be 422 megawatts, provided by Georgia Power, maximum water supply is estimated at 13,500 gallons per day, and the company estimates completion by 2032 with 150 jobs once operational. Rome sits northwest of Atlanta, Georgia’s main data centre hub.
The filing follows a similar application last month for ATL50, a two building, 910,000 square foot campus in Union City on an 88 acre parcel, also set to launch in 2032. Microsoft already has projects operating or under development across the Atlanta area, including in Fairburn, Douglasville, Palmetto, East Point and Tyrone, and its Fairwater site in Atlanta launched in November 2025.
Two features stand out. The first is the horizon: Microsoft is permitting capacity for 2032 in 2026, which means today’s filings are the supply side of the AI buildout’s second half. The second is the water figure. At 13,500 gallons a day, the campus is designed to use remarkably little water for its size, a specification that reflects how central cooling design has become to winning local approval in the markets Microsoft needs most.
