Elon Musk’s disclosed giving in the 2026 midterm cycle has passed $445 million, according to Federal Election Commission filings posted on Thursday and reported by Bloomberg, after a further contribution of about $77 million to his own super PAC, America PAC, in the first two weeks of October. Politico, counting the same filings, put the October transfer at $76 million and the cycle total at more than $442 million. On either count he is the biggest single donor of the cycle, ahead of Democratic backer George Soros and Republican donors Jeffrey Yass and Richard Uihlein.
America PAC spent $43 million over the same two-week period and ended it with $46.5 million in cash on hand. Since August the group has spent $43.2 million on canvassing and $8.8 million on digital media and texting, the ground operation Musk’s network has built across competitive House and Senate races. The disclosed total is already well above the roughly $290 million Musk spent in the 2024 cycle.
Two qualifications belong with the headline figure. First, the totals cover committees required to disclose their donors: Musk has also given to groups that do not identify contributors, according to the New York Times reporting cited by Bloomberg, so the full extent of his spending is not publicly known. Second, the exposure runs both ways. SpaceX, Tesla, the Boring Company and Neuralink are heavily exposed to federal regulation, his planned combination of SpaceX and Tesla will face regulatory scrutiny, and the DOGE effort he led to reshape the federal government would come under congressional scrutiny if Democrats win the House.
The filings land eleven days before polls close on November 3, in the final reporting window of the cycle. Whatever further giving occurs after this filing period will not be fully visible to voters before they cast their ballots.
