Explosions reported in Aden as Houthis claim strike on bases

Politics Saturday, October 24, 2026 - Updated Oct 24, 2026 13:42

Yemen's Interior Ministry said on Saturday that two Houthi ballistic missiles hit the coast guard headquarters in its Aden complex and a third hit a coast guard building in the Tawahi district, with no reports of casualties.

Why it matters: Aden is the seat of Yemen's internationally recognised government, and confirmed missile hits on its coast guard headquarters mark a step beyond the morning's unconfirmed explosion reports, extending a Houthi campaign that has already hit the city's airport and presidential palace this month.

Yemen’s internationally recognised government said the Houthis fired three ballistic missiles at coast guard facilities in Aden on Saturday, its Interior Ministry said, with two hitting the coast guard headquarters in the ministry complex and a third hitting a coast guard building in the Tawahi district, Reuters reported. The ministry’s account gives the morning’s explosions confirmed targets for the first time, and neither Reuters nor the ministry reported casualties in the city.

Three explosions were heard in Aden on Saturday, an Aden police officer and an AFP correspondent reported, and another police source told AFP the Houthis had targeted a Saudi-led coalition position near Aden airport and the coast guard. Al Arabiya reported four explosions in the city, three of them around the international airport, and IRNA, quoting Al Jazeera, put the airport and the coast guard headquarters among the probable targets, citing local sources who said three ballistic missiles had targeted the airport. Separately, the Houthis’ military spokesman Yahya Saria said the movement had struck Saudi forces at the An-Nasr camp and the naval base in Aden, TASS and IRNA both reported, and no casualties or damage were reported for the city.
