Technology stocks steadied on Friday after Thursday’s rout, without recovering it. Semiconductors rose 0.53 percent to 478.20 dollars and the tech sector rose 0.49 percent to 183.23 dollars, while the Nasdaq 100 was unchanged at 28,958. Among the megacaps, Microsoft was the only gainer, up 0.66 percent to 524.51 dollars.
The rest drifted lower in an orderly way. Nvidia fell 0.59 percent to 210.96 dollars, Apple fell 0.14 percent to 347.73 dollars, Broadcom fell 0.48 percent to 321.68 dollars, Tesla fell 0.63 percent to 372.22 dollars, Amazon fell 0.95 percent to 248.00 dollars, Meta fell 0.96 percent to 642.62 dollars, and Alphabet fell 1.24 percent to 320.21 dollars, the largest megacap decline of the day.
The weekly picture still belongs to Thursday. Meta is down 9.4 percent on the week, Alphabet down 5.98 percent, Broadcom down 2.15 percent and Nvidia down 1.48 percent, while Tesla is up 4.93 percent and Apple up 1.24 percent. Nothing in Friday’s session supplied a new driver in this morning’s reporting: no major earnings print landed after Thursday’s Lam Research, Western Digital and IBM results, and the pause reads as position squaring into the weekend rather than a change of view.
The test resumes next week. The Federal Reserve meets October 27 and 28, setting the rates backdrop for tech multiples, and Sandisk reports October 29 in the slipstream of Western Digital’s beat. Until then, Thursday’s two questions stand: whether AI spending converts to cash, and whether AI demand converts to shipments.
