Krolmap plans 225MW off grid data center in Zaragoza

Krolmap plans a 225MW data center campus in Belchite, Zaragoza, valued at 1.5 billion euros and designed to run substantially off grid.

Why it matters: An off grid design removes the connection queue from the critical path but moves the hardest problem in house: an energy system that never drops a critical load, through winter weeks of low renewable output.

Data as of Single sourced: Datacenter Dynamics, October 23, 2026, translated from its Spanish site, reporting Heraldo de Aragon; project in planning phase, generation capacities not specified. Evidence grade capped at C.

Spanish engineering firm Krolmap is planning a 225MW data center campus in Belchite, in the Zaragoza province of Aragon, designed to run substantially off grid. The initiative is valued at 1.5 billion euros, about 1.68 billion dollars, and would occupy 25 hectares in the La Legua industrial park, with six independent buildings and an on site energy system combining renewable generation, storage and cogeneration sized to meet continuous demand. Heraldo de Aragon published the design details, reported by Datacenter Dynamics.

The project is in the planning phase, and the published information does not specify the generation technologies or their capacities. Krolmap is planning a second Aragon project in Villanueva de Gallego in parallel. The proposal addresses the constraint that now governs Spanish data center development, grid access.
