CEF Energy 2026 call draws €2.88 billion in applications

Infrastructure Monday, October 26, 2026 - Updated Oct 26, 2026 11:42

Cross-border energy projects have sought €2.88 billion in EU co-funding under the 2026 CEF Energy call, nearly five times the €600 million available, in 67 applications covering more than 20 countries.

Why it matters: The oversubscription sets the competition the Commission and CINEA now judge: evaluation results are due in January 2027 and grant agreements by July 2027, and most applicants will not be funded from this call.

Data as of European Commission (CINEA) announcement of October 26, 2026, read in full in this run. Single publisher, the administering agency itself, reporting applications to its own call, so the item rests on the primary document alone.

The European Commission has received 67 applications for cross-border energy infrastructure projects requesting €2.88 billion in co-funding under the Connecting Europe Facility Energy programme, CINEA said on Monday, against a budget of €600 million under the 2026 calls for Projects of Common Interest and Projects of Mutual Interest. The proposals, submitted by the 30 September close and covering more than 20 countries, are now being checked for admissibility and eligibility before evaluation by independent experts, the Commission and CINEA. Applicants are expected to learn the results in January 2027, with grant agreements for successful projects expected by July 2027.
