Sudan says RSF drones hit five power stations, causing outages

Politics Monday, October 26, 2026 - Updated Oct 26, 2026 05:16

Sudan's government says Rapid Support Forces drones hit five power stations, two in Al-Jazira state, two in Gedaref and one in White Nile, causing mass outages across large parts of the three army-controlled states, in an AFP report.

Why it matters: Power infrastructure has become a repeated target in Sudan's war, and a coordinated strike on five stations in three eastern states in one night cuts electricity for large civilian populations far from the front lines, though the account so far rests on a government official and residents, with no RSF comment.

Data as of CORRECTION, October 26, 2026, 05:16 ET: the first version of this item, published at 05:12 ET, placed the strikes in Khartoum, Dongola, Al-Dabba and Atbara and attributed them to a statement by government spokesperson Khalid Al-Aiser. That version rested on a faulty interim read of the source article and is withdrawn: those locations and that named attribution appear in no version of the article relied on here. The corrected text rests on the full read of the Arab News article with AFP, published October 26, 2026 and updated the same morning, which reports five stations hit (two in Al-Jazira, two in Gedaref, one in White Nile) on the account of an unnamed government official who spoke to AFP, an AFP correspondent in Al-Jazira and residents of the affected states. The article reports no casualties from this attack and carries no RSF comment. Single wire source, evidence grade C. Developing item.

Rapid Support Forces drones hit five power stations in eastern Sudan in a coordinated attack on Monday, two in Al-Jazira state, two in Gedaref and one in White Nile, causing mass outages across large parts of the three army-controlled states, an unnamed Sudanese government official told AFP, in a report carried by Arab News. An AFP correspondent in Al-Jazira said power had been out since 2 a.m., and a resident of Al-Fao in Gedaref said power there had been out since the same time. AFP reported no casualties from this attack, and the report carries no RSF comment.
