Two people were killed and 17 wounded, including a child, in an overnight drone attack on the Russian city of Voronezh, regional governor Alexander Gusev announced, in Interfax’s report of his statement; ERT News, carrying APE, Reuters and AFP reporting, gives the same toll. Gusev said air defences destroyed 113 drones over the city and districts of the region, more than 70 of them over Voronezh itself, and that a significant part of the wounded, including two seriously wounded people, were injured in a train moving through a left bank suburb when drone debris fell on it. Russian Railways, in RIA Novosti’s report, said a carriage of train No. 11, Anapa to Moscow, was damaged at Somovo station with five passengers injured on preliminary information, and that traffic on the section through Somovo was suspended after power was lost in the contact network. Fires broke out at industrial enterprises, a business centre, an apartment building, dacha settlements, a school stadium and a garage cooperative, Gusev said; NV, a Ukrainian outlet citing the Astra channel’s OSINT analysis, identified the business centre as the Galeria Chizhova in the city centre. No Ukrainian official comment on the attack has been reported.
Voronezh drone attack kills two, wounds 17, hits passenger train
Voronezh region governor Alexander Gusev says two people were killed and 17 wounded, including a child, in an overnight drone attack on the city, with a significant part of the wounded injured in a passenger train hit by falling debris.
Why it matters: A mass drone raid killed and wounded civilians inside a Russian regional capital and reached a moving passenger train, and every figure so far is the regional governor's: no Ukrainian statement on the attack has been reported, and no independent toll exists.
Data as of Update, October 26, 2026, 02:47 ET: full reads of Interfax and ERT News were obtained via browser after the correction below was published, and the toll in the text now rests on them. Interfax, in Russian and read in full, reports Governor Alexander Gusev's updated figures from his Max channel: two killed (men born in 1960 and 1973), 17 wounded including one child, 113 drones destroyed over the Voronezh agglomeration and districts of the region with more than 70 of them over the city itself, a significant part of the wounded, including two seriously wounded, injured in a moving train in a left bank suburb when drone debris fell on it, and fires at industrial enterprises, a business centre, an apartment building, two dacha settlements, a school stadium and a garage cooperative. ERT News, in Greek with APE, Reuters and AFP sourcing and read in full, carries the same Gusev toll (two killed, 17 injured including a child, 113 drones shot down) and the industrial fires. The toll remains the Russian regional governor's announced figures, carried by wire reporting but not independently verified, and neither article carries a Ukrainian official comment on the attack. Russian Railways' statement, reported by RIA Novosti in a full read, is narrower and earlier: a carriage of train No. 11, Anapa to Moscow, damaged at Somovo station, five passengers injured on preliminary information, and traffic suspended on the Tresvyatskaya to Somovo to Otrozhka to Voronezh section after power was lost in the contact network; the two accounts are carried as reported and are not reconciled here. NV, in Ukrainian and read in full, attributes its reporting to the Astra Telegram channel, its OSINT analysts and local residents: fires in residential areas, explosions geolocated at two addresses, and one drone hitting the Galeria Chizhova business centre. The Kommersant article in the feed queue could not be read at all (its domain did not resolve in repeated browser attempts) and nothing in the text rests on it. CORRECTION, October 26, 2026, 02:45 ET: the first version of this item, published minutes earlier in this run, carried a toll of 17 wounded, most of them train passengers at Pridacha station, a claim of 112 drones intercepted, and an attribution of those figures to NV reporting Russian official statements. That version rested on an interim browser summary that the completed full read of the NV article did not support: NV's article gives no casualty toll and no drone count for this attack, and its only governor quotation concerns a separate October 23 fire near the Baltimore military airfield. Those figures, the Pridacha station detail and that attribution were withdrawn in the 02:45 version; the toll and drone figures in the current text are the Interfax and ERT full reads described above, and the 112 figure appears in no source read in full.
