Audi will invest about $4 billion to build its first United States production site at the Middle Georgia Mega Site, creating about 4,500 jobs with construction from 2027 and production from the early 2030s.

Why it matters: The plant gives Volkswagen's premium brand a local production base in its second largest premium market, cutting its exposure to tariffs on European imports and making North America a third production pillar alongside Europe and China.

Audi will invest about $4 billion to establish its first production site in the United States, at the Middle Georgia Mega Site in Georgia, the company said in a press release on Tuesday. The plant is designed for annual production capacity of up to 200,000 vehicles, will create about 4,500 jobs, and will build premium SUVs tailored to North American customers, with construction scheduled to begin in 2027 and production planned to start in the early 2030s.

Audi said the site, in Peach County near Macon, offers flexibility and space for future expansion, and that local production will reduce its exposure to trade and currency risks, including the 15 percent tariff on European auto imports to the United States. The company intends North America to become a third major pillar of its global production network alongside Europe and China, while Germany and Europe remain its industrial backbone.
