BCE said its subsidiary Bell Canada has signed a definitive agreement under which La Caisse will acquire a 49.9 percent stake in TowerCo, a newly formed company that will own and operate Bell’s wireless tower portfolio of more than 5,000 sites, for CAD 2.45 billion, valuing TowerCo at about CAD 4.91 billion. Bell will keep a 50.1 percent controlling interest, TowerCo will lease capacity on the towers back to Bell and is expected to carry no financial debt at closing, and Bell retains full ownership of its spectrum, active network equipment and owned land. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals.
La Caisse to buy 49.9 percent of Bell tower company
La Caisse will acquire a 49.9 percent stake in TowerCo, a newly formed company holding Bell Canada's wireless tower portfolio, for CAD 2.45 billion, in a transaction that values the tower company at about CAD 4.91 billion.
Why it matters: The sale carves Canada's largest dedicated tower company, with more than 5,000 sites, out of Bell while keeping it consolidated on BCE's balance sheet, and the proceeds support BCE's commitment to cut its net debt leverage ratio to 3.5 times by the end of 2027.
Data as of BCE news release of October 27, 2026, read in full in this run; all transaction figures are BCE's own. The Bloomberg headline figure of $1.7 billion is the US dollar equivalent of the CAD 2.45 billion purchase price. Developing item.
